First HIFU case in Columbus, Ohio

On June 7, 2016 Riverside Urology hosted a health seminar on a new treatment for prostate cancer, at the Hilton Hotel at Easton. Dr. Michael Sweeney, Dr. Michael Meade and Dr. John Jurige joined Dr. Herb Riemenschneider to discuss High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) a minimally invasive, non- radiation treatment for prostate cancer. Riverside Urology performed the first HIFU case in Columbus, Ohio the following day.

HIFU is coming to Columbus, Ohio

High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is coming to Columbus. The FDA approved HIFU in October 2015. For the previous 3 and half years Dr. Riemenschneider has treated his patients, who wanted HIFU, offshore in Mexico and the Bahamas. Now prostate cancer patients can be treated, as outpatients, at the Knightsbridge Surgery Center. HIFU is an effective treatment option for early stage prostate cancer. This is the first treatment of its kind that uses ultrasound to treat cancer. Some of the benefits of HIFU are rapid recovery and a reduction in prostate cancer treatment side-effects like incontinence and erectile dysfunction, while effectively destroying cancer cells.
